Taking Care of the People Who Move the Dirt

Taking Care of the People Who Move the Dirt

The heat doesn’t stop the job. But it does remind us to take care of the people getting it done.

Nothing fancy. Just cold watermelon, a quick break, and a team that looks out for one another before getting back to work.

That’s a small thing. It’s also the whole point.

North Carolina summers are hard on crews. Long days, full sun, heavy equipment, and work that doesn’t wait for the temperature to drop. The projects still have schedules. The grades still have to get built. What changes is how deliberately you look after the people out there doing it.

The same thinking applies away from the jobsite. Our Shop and Fleet team keeps our equipment ready to roll, usually before anyone else arrives and often after everyone else has gone home. This summer we took a night to celebrate that crew with bowling, racing, and some friendly competition.

Great people. Great culture. Great times.

Building great projects starts with taking care of great people. That’s not a slogan we hang in the office, it’s Faith, Family, Dirt in practice, and it shows up in cold watermelon on a hot afternoon just as much as it shows up in benefits, training, and career paths.

That’s The Marks Difference.
