Big jobs take a team effort and a whole lot of coordination.
Merritt Reserve is one of the largest multi-phase projects on our board, and we’re still making progress as our clearing crews move across the site.
What makes this one different is the scale we’re running at. Roughly 700,000 cubic yards of earthwork is underway at Merritt Reserve, moving a residential development in Rolesville forward across multiple phases. On a project this size, the dirt isn’t the hard part. The sequencing is.
On multi-phase work like this, we’re never doing just one thing on a site at once. Clearing crews are opening ground on a later phase while mass grading runs behind them and utility crews install storm, water, and sanitary in a phase that was cleared months ago. Every one of those scopes has its own equipment, its own crew, its own inspections, and its own weather exposure. Get the sequence wrong and crews stack up on each other, equipment sits idle, and the builder’s schedule slips.
That’s why we run turnkey sitework as one team. When our own crews handle clearing, earthwork, utilities, curb, and paving, the handoffs between scopes stop being handoffs. There’s no gap between one sub finishing and the next one mobilizing, no finger-pointing when a grade isn’t ready, and one schedule instead of five.
That same coordination is why we scale our safety culture with the job. Merritt Reserve has hosted Safety Stand Downs bringing crews together to slow down, review hazards, and reinforce the habits that keep everyone safe when a site gets busy.
We’re proud of the Marks men and women keeping this one moving, right here in the Triangle.
