Safety is more than a priority at Marks. It’s a responsibility we all share.
Last week, our crews came together for a Safety Stand Down focused on the Competent Person and the authority every employee has to stop work when conditions are unsafe.
A Safety Stand Down means the work pauses so everyone can focus on one thing. No machines moving, no deadlines pulling attention away. Just our people, in the same place, talking about how we keep each other safe.
This one centered on two ideas. First, the role of the Competent Person on a jobsite. Second, a point that matters just as much: every employee at Marks has the authority to stop work when conditions are unsafe. Not just supervisors. Everyone.
We closed out the morning by signing our Safety Pledge. It’s a simple act, and it’s meant to be. Putting your name down says you’re committed to looking out for yourself and for the person working next to you.
Here’s what we think that means in practice. A safety culture isn’t built by a policy sitting in a binder. It’s built when the newest operator on the crew knows they can speak up, and when the people around them are ready to listen. The pledge puts that expectation in writing, and the stand down puts it in front of the whole team.
One team. One goal. Everyone goes home safe.
Proud of the Marks men and women who made time to slow down and focus on what matters most.
